Durango School District 9‐R and local and regional emergency first responders, including law enforcement, emergency management services, Durango Fire Protection District, area hospitals, and victim advocates, will be conducting a live, full-scale exercise mimicking the scenario of an active shooter in a school.  This exercise will test all emergency agencies’ systems of preparedness, response, and recovery in response to a school crisis.

This exercise will be staged at Sunnyside Elementary School on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

In addition to area emergency responders testing procedures and practices around search and secure, triage, evacuation etc., Durango School District 9-R will be practicing their procedures around Parent Reunification.  The reunification site for the exercise will be located at the District Office Building.

The school district and local authorities advise the public to avoid these areas that day, to avoid traffic delays.
