February Principal's Message

In order to encourage helpful, expected behaviors throughout our school community, Fort Lewis Mesa’s staff and students continue working hard on our school-wide positive behavior system. In November, we highlighted kindness. During December, we honed in on being safe. Meanwhile in January, we gave extra attention to responsibility. For February, we are supporting students with the idea of being observant which is the O in ROCKS.  What does being observant mean you might ask? Well it might look like...

  • Cleaning up after ourselves and others when needed in the cafeteria
  • Being aware of our surroundings throughout the school
  • Staying on the right side in the hall so we don’t bump into others
  • Awareness of others boundaries and maintaining personal space
  • Telling an adult if equipment is not working properly (e.g. a water fountain)
  • Adjusting our voice volume based on the situation and space

As we continue as a school to build a system of clear expectations, actions, and feedback, I ask you to help us by chatting with your student/s about what ROCKS (Responsible, Observant, Courteous/Kind, Safe) looks like inside and outside of school. We appreciate the family-school partnership we have!

Also, don’t forget that Friday, February 14 and Monday, February 17 are no school days; enjoy the four day weekend!

Here’s to an awesome & healthy month!
