Physical Education

Our P.E. program for grades K-2 focuses on learning gross motor skills, coordination, and learning how to be safe while moving our bodies. We work on such skills as rhythm, locomotor challenges, balance challenges, and hand-eye coordination challenges.  We work on skills such as catching and throwing, kicking and moving our bodies to a beat.

Grades 3-5 focus more on learning about how to maintain a healthy body through exercise and nutrition.  Students learn about the 5 Components of Health-related Fitness, the 6 Components of Skill-related Fitness, as well as the F.I.T.T. Principle for exercise (Frequency; Intensity; Time; Type). They also focus on Sportsmanship--learning the rules for a variety of sports, the importance of being a good teammate, as well as how to control emotions during competitive sports.

The curriculum used for P.E. comes from a mixture of the SPARK PE curriculum, Five for Life program, and Project Adventure.
