Fort Lewis Mesa Parent Letter - 10.26.20

Learning Model Shifts: When we returned to school in August, the district notified parents that at the nine week mark (the end of quarter one), they could revisit their chosen learning model. If wanted, parents could change their model at this time; this applied districtwide. Over the last few weeks, we started this process. As of today, almost every FLME family decided to return to in-person learning. Due to more students learning in the building and to ensure proper spacing, we need to make adjustments. The biggest one involves adding another in-person classroom. As of Tuesday, November 3, Ms. O’Buck will have an in-person classroom; she will teach a 2nd/3rd grade class. We took multiple factors into consideration when adjusting the classrooms so please know we looked at each classroom, each child, and what placement might create the most successful learning environment for them.

Here is our class structure starting Tuesday, 11/3:

5th Grade- Mrs. Clements

3rd/4th Grade- Mr. Servais

2nd/3rd Grade- Ms. O’Buck

1st/2nd Grade- Mrs. Harris

Kindergarten- Mrs. Qualls

We recognize you want to know your student’s placement. Please expect a phone call by or on October 30th from your teacher. This will provide an opportunity for you to know your student’s class ahead of the shift as well as to ask any questions you have as we transition into quarter 2. For those families staying with remote learning, we offered this model through another school site so that there was consistency and continued remote support moving forward.

Upcoming Staff Professional Development Days: Please remember that students will not be in the building on October 30th (Friday) and November 2nd (Monday).  October 30th is considered a student instructional day at home.  Assignments will be sent home or available online for ALL students. Attendance on October 30th will be based off of completed assignments turned in the following week. Monday, November 2nd, is a non-instructional day and attendance will not be taken. If you signed up for the student enrichment opportunities, plans were shared with you by email.

Daily Student Health Screening Process: Keep it up! Thank you for supporting our morning flow by doing the student health screen form. This required daily process monitors our students’ wellness; please complete this quick form each morning by drop off so that we can jump into our learning. Fort Lewis Mesa online daily health screening form for all our students (Shared School included): FLME Student Health Screening Form

Reminder...if your child is absent, call us. We care about our students and us knowing when they are out is important.

Halloween: Given COVID 19, students may not bring in treats or goodies to share for Halloween. We appreciate you following this plan. However, on Thursday, 10/29, they can come to school in their costumes and wear them all day. Please ensure their costumes do not have gore, costume masks, and/or weapons when at school. If needed, please have your student wear their change of clothing underneath their costume in case they want to stop wearing it.

We are grateful for our amazing students and families. Keep up the great communication and thank you for being involved in our community.

Have an amazing week!

Jenny Imel, Principal
