Attendance

We are concerned about the amount of absences we have, many which are not illness related. This is a real
problem and we need your help. Students’ academic success heavily depends on their attendance at school.
Chronic Absence vs. Truancy
● School starts at 7:30am-7:50am is tardy
● Students are considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more days of school for any reason
(excused or unexcused); this is 17 or more days in a school year.
● Students are considered truant if they miss 4 days of school within one month, or 10 days of school
within one year, without a valid excuse. Truancy is attached to the law and can be processed accordingly.

FLME LOCKDOWN DRILL-October 26th
Our number one priority at FLME is to keep all students safe. School-wide drills and safety procedures and
protocols, like a lockdown, connect to our safety practices.
● Lockdown- In the event of a full lockdown, an announcement is made from the office (or wherever the
threat may be) sharing that a lockdown has been initiated which includes all staff and students remaining
inside and moving to pre-identified safety areas within their classrooms. Any parents or visitors should
follow the directions provided by our staff members and move with the class they are with or go
immediately to the nearest room and lock the door by removing the door blocks that cover each door’s
strike plate. While sheltering, our teachers take attendance and utilize our methods of communication to
locate any children who may have been in other areas or with other teachers during the lockdown
notification. Everyone remains in lockdown position until further directions are given, and no students
can be dismissed during any safety procedure until the threat or warning has passed.
● In the event of an actual emergency, we will communicate necessary information to our families in a
timely manner via our School Messenger phone system. Again, no dismissal is allowed during a
Lockdown Drill. As always, thank you for supporting our teachers and our school as we work together to
provide a safe and purposeful learning environment for our students!

SAAC-School Accountability Advisory Committee
We're looking for members!
● Are you interested in helping our school discuss budget, curriculum, safety, diversity, student
achievement, and community engagement? If so, join us!
● We know time is precious so we are ONLY meeting FOUR times this school year! The FLME SAAC meets
in October, January, March and May. We are open to ideas around meeting time/s.
● Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 18 @ 5:30pm by Zoom
○ Join Zoom Meeting, ID: 83922978366

We are Resilient Risk-Takers (Portrait of a Graduate Quality 2) Portrait of a Graduate
● At the end of September, our preschoolers and 5th graders led us in a celebration of what being an
Empathetic Collaborator looks like and sounds like, during Sunshine Club (see photo below).
● While we continue to recognize this quality, we have transitioned to another one, the resilient risk-taker.
These are students and staff who show self-awareness, persistence, and/or act as a hopeful
future-planner.
● Help us celebrate our students! When a student shows this quality (actions small or big), they earn a
badge and bring the badge home to share with their family.

Thanks for being part of our FLME team!
